Description

The trailhead is somewhere in the vicinity of the Illahe Campground.

Driving Directions

From Portland, drive south on I-5. Beware the passes between Roseberg and Grants Pass - it gets snowy some times in the winter.

At exit 61, follow the signs to Merlin. This is on the Merlin Road.

Keep going straight through Merlin. The road changes name to Galice Road. Some maps show the road name as Merlin Galice Road but the street signs say just Galice Road. There are also signs saying "to Agness".

At mile 15.5 from I-5, follow the road to Agness which goes left away from the Rogue River. The Grave Creek Trailhead is 7.5 miles further along the Rogue River in case you're doing a car shuttle.

The road from the Rogue to Agness is supposed to be narrow, windy, but paved. No first hand recent knowledge about this. This becomes Forest Service Road 23. After about 2 hours, you reach the other end. Turn right on Forest Service Road 33 and follow signs to Agness, Illahe Campground, or Foster Bar - not sure exactly where.

There are several Forest Service Campgrounds in the area.

An alternate route to the trailhead is from the coast. On Highway 101, at the north end of Gold Beach, on the south side of the Rogue River, follow the signs to Agness. It's about 35 miles.
