Description
The Cooper Spur Shelter is halfway up Cooper Spur, just above the junction of the Tilly Jane Trail with the Timberline Trail. You get great views up the mountain, and of area to the east.
The shelter is a stone shelter with metal roof (that drips when it rains), open door, and a fireplace with chimney. It's big enough for a couple people. It would be good in a storm.
There are a number of good nearby spots for tents. The closest drinking water is 0.5 miles below in the Tilly Jane canyon.
From the junction of Tilly Jane Trail and Timberline Trail, take the Tilly Jane Trail directly up. There is a sign that says "Cooper Spur". You can also get to the shelter from the detour across Eliot Creek - go directly up a faint trail up the ridge on the east side of Eliot Creek.
