Description

Devil's Garden is the most spectacular alpine area you can easily get to on Mount Adams. The meadows only have the smallest plant cover possible because of the high elevation. The rock gardens are other wordly. The views to Mount Rainier and the Goat Rocks are magnificent.

You're 11.5 miles from the nearest trailhead, Killen Creek, so there won't be many other people up there.

Beware the two large streams you have to cross between Foggy Flat and Devil's Garden. They are difficult to cross during heavy snow melt or rain, and are worse in the afternoon than the morning because of increased snow melt.

You can walk up another mile, off trail, beyond the high point of the Highline Trail. Just try to avoid trampling the few plants. Keep an eye where you came from so you don't get lost. Look for mountain goats which are common. You can walk all the way up to the base of a glacier (if it hasn't melted yet - global warming).

The Round-The-Mountain Trail continues around the mountain a ways. Theoretically, you can go all the way round the mountain, but the trail ends in a few miles, and it is very difficult to find a route off trail.
