Description
This junction is a welcome sight for those backpacking up to Wahtum Lake from Eagle Creek. The view of the lake is just beyond the junction. Here the Chinidere Cutoff trail diverts to the left off the Eagle Creek trail and acts as short cut around the west side of the lake for PCT thru-hikers. (The main PCT makes a big loop around the west side).
Hikers may go either direction to find the PCT depending on their eventual destination. Continue on the Eagle Creek trail (the right fork at this junction) and you'll meet up with the Pacific Crest-Eagle Creek Trail Junction where you'll find two campsites right on the lake.
