Description
Elowah Falls has created a huge amphitheater by eroding away numerous lava flows. One of the flows, towards the top, is softer than many of the others and creates an obvious, shelf-like alcove all the way around the basin. Decades ago, trail makers were able to gouge a trail out of this soft flow and protect it with handrails. Today, this trail provides an outstanding view down to Elowah Falls and across the Columbia River to Hamilton Mountain and Table Mountain.
