Description

Gillette Lake might not be the remotest of lakes, but it's a very worthwhile hike, nonetheless. The lake is stocked with golden trout and there are often ducks as well, particularly in the winter. Deer are common around dusk, feeding in the clearcuts and if you're lucky you might catch a beaver chewing on the small trees near the shore. Putting aside the powerlines overhead, it is a nice, tranquil location. The lake often has a green coloration that gives it some nice character. The distinct profile of Hamilton Mountain is in evidence to the west and Table Mountain towers above you to the northeast.

Following an informal trail around the outside of the lake earns some nicer views. There is at least once designated lake-side campsite here. Watch for it near the base of the hill where the trail descends down from the powerline access road.
