Description
Lower Shellburg Falls is the first waterfall most people encounter in the Stasel Creek area. The Shellburg Creek flows under a small concrete road bridge and then immediately falls into the Stasel Creek Canyon. While it's easy to find, the waterfall can be tricky to view. The view from the bridge isn't all that great. There's a rock promontory on the west side of the bridge that offers a decent view of the upper tier, but a fall from here would be deadly. The view from the road on the east side of the bridge is obscured by a perfectly placed broken tree. The best views are probably from the bottom, but the only way to get there is a steep scramble down the bluff on the east side of the bridge.
The main "trail" here is actually Shellburg Road, which is normally gated an open only to hikers. There's a trail junction at the east end of the bridge where the Shellburg Falls Trail heads uphill to the north toward Shellburg Falls.
