Hike Description

There are a lot of hikes in the Wahtum Lake area. This one hits a couple of relatively unknown trails.

From the Wahtum Lake Parking Lot, turn your back on all of the people heading toward the lake and head north instead on the Anthill Trail, numbered 406B. The trail begins a steady climb right out of the lot to the summit of Waucoma Ridge, passing several beautiful viewpoint of Wahtum Lake along the way. You'll pass a junction with the Rainy-Wahtum Trail and come to another with Herman Creek Trail. Head north on Herman Creek Trail for almost a mile, until you see a sign pointing out a fainter trail to Mud Lake. Mud Lake is about a quarter mile down this side path.
