Trip Report

  • A trip report is an individual instance of a hike on a certain date.
  • Type: Forum Post
  • Trip reports are not added to the Field Guide, but are linked from the Field Guide to the forums inside a hike article.


Destination

  • A destination is a place a person might hike to, or an important spot along a hike, like a waterfall or a summit.
  • Type: Wiki Article
  • Naming: A destination should be the name of the destination. Example: Wahkeena Falls
  • Destination Template

Hike

  • A hike is a specific route with starting and ending point, with possible optional side trips.
  • A hike can have several trip reports.
  • A hike has a trailhead.
  • A hike can have one or more areas.
  • A hike can link to destinations.
  • Type: Wiki Article
  • Naming: Hikes should end with the word hike. Example: Lost Lake Loop Hike

Trailhead

  • A trailhead has a specific GPS location.
  • A trailhead can have many hikes.
  • A trailhead can have one one or more areas.
  • Type: Wiki Article
  • Naming: Trailheads should end with the word trailhead. Example: Falls Creek Horse Camp Trailhead
  • Trailhead Template

Area

  • An area can have many hikes, trailheads and destinations.
  • An area can be a subset of another area.
  • Some areas may also be like destinations. Information can be placed on the area page in the same manner as a destination.
  • Type: Wiki Category
  • Naming: Area names should just be the name of that area, but set up as a category instead of an article. Example: Category:Mount Hood Area

Trail Log

  • A trail log is a record of all trails and connecting trails used on a hike.
  • Trail logs are optional.
  • Type: Wiki Article
  • Naming: Trail Logs should be named with the name of the hike, follow by "/Log". Example: Larch_Mountain_Crater_Hike/Log
