Hike Description
This is an easy hike around Round Lake, near Camas. Lacamas Park, at the trailhead offers restrooms, grass and playground equipment. Interpretive signs detail the lakes history and water quality.
From any of the paved park trails, turn right and head south. The trail soon turns to gravel as it works follows a thin strip of land between Round Lake on the left and Mill Pond on the right. The trail crosses a structure designed to separate the two bodies of water and comes to a trail junction. The right fork leads to the Mill Pond Dam and an unofficial bicycle area. For this hike, take the left fork and cross the Round Lake Dam.
After the dam, keep left at several unsigned and poorly signed junctions. All of these southbound trail connect together at The Potholes. The trail begins to gain elevation, switchbacking twice, before coming to a junction with the Lily Trail. Keep left once again and enjoy a pleasant, if a bit hilly walk through the forest. The trail drops somewhat steeply to a small dock on the shore of Round Lake, then proceeds north near the shore and crosses a wetland on a footbridge.
Soon after you pass a home, you'll come to a road. This is the end of the trail. To complete the loop, go left on the road and walk the sidewalk for 0.2 miles to Everett Road. Turn left here and walk another 1/10 of a mile across a bridge to the Lacamas Park Trailhead and your car.
