Zigzag Viewpoint

From Portland Hikers Field Guide

Paradise Park on Southwest side of Mount Hood from Zigzag Trail

Contents

Description

If you go beyond the North Burnt Lake Hike and head toward Mount Hood on the Zigzag Mountain Trail (5.3 miles from the North Burnt Lake Trailhead and 12.5 miles from the West Zigzag Trailhead, is a highpoint with a great view towards Mount Hood. There is a small, flat area where one could pitch a tent - but the space is limited and there is no water access nearby.

As you look at Mount Hood from this vantage-point follow the ridge on the right as it follows up toward the summit and the snowline (pictured to the right as the one snowless ridge near the base of the mountain). That is the ridge in Paradise Park that contains the huge boulder with the two plaques memorializing ex-Forest Service employees.
